Longyearbyen lokalstyre opens the distribution station for self-tests on Monday 22 November. The station is in the parking lot by Longyear 78° and is open from 11:00 to 14:00 on weekdays.

Measures against Covid 19 in Longyearbyen
Due to the fact that several cases of Covid-19 have now been registered in Longyearbyen, the chief infection control doctor recommends several measures. Longyearbyen lokalstyre will also hand out free self-tests.

Covid-19: Changes for Svalbard
The requirement for a negative corona test before travelling to Svalbard from the Norwegian mainland is removed. The requirement that entry quarantine must be carried out on the mainland before further travel to Svalbard is continued, the Norwegian government writes in a press release today.

Quarantine must be carried out on the mainland
The Governor reminds that persons who are subject to a quarantine obligation on arrival in mainland Norway must carry out the entry quarantine on the mainland before traveling on to Svalbard. It is not possible to carry out the entry quarantine on Svalbard.

New firearms regulations from 1 June 2021
The new Act and Regulations relating to Firearms will come into force on 1 June 2021. The new regulations supersede the Firearms Act of 1961 with regulations and circulars. This means that all regulations, circulars and guidelines enshrined in the old act do not apply after 1 June. "The changes will have greater consequences for Svalbard than for mainland Norway," states Assistant Governor Sølvi Elvedahl.

Lifts the evacuation in Nybyen
Based on professional assessments from Skred AS and NVE, the Governor lifts the evacuation in Nybyen from 18.00 today. Traffic bans are maintained in the area above the buildings (see map).

Maintains evacuation in Nybyen
The Governor has decided to maintain the evacuation and ban on residence and traffic in Nybyen. There is still a danger that the cornices at the top of Gruvefjellet may loosen and fall down.
